Post-School update

As for my status, I am a sociology major in the faculty of arts at UBC, and I will be graduating in August 2010. I think. It's extended because I'm doing co-op.

Stuff I'm doing for the summer:
  • Summer school! I'm taking SOCI 310: Sociology of Canadian Society. Something like that at least. Deborah Pentecost. Please pray that I'll survive this course without any complaint! I received one of my lowest marks ever when I first took her 200 class.. and now that I'm taking her 300-level course that's REQUIRED, I'm feeling the need to really work hard!
  • Attending Regeneration. They have it, right? Good free food, good music, good speakers, good networking opportunities............ and I'll get to see someone very dear to my heart
  • Looking for a fall co-op job! Eeeek. hire me hire me. I wanna work in NYC so i can hang out with my cousin. Or I want to return to HK, but who would hire me anyway? *hinthint*
  • Working on a Student Directed Seminar! Gotta finish my course proposal by May 22nd.. for more information, visit this site: http://leap.ubc.ca/get_ahead/student_directed_seminars/. I'll hopefully be leading a course on Global Citizenship: Seeing the Global from the Local. I am soooooooooooo excited about this!!
  • Doing acupuncture. Some part of my body is hurting and I need traditional medicine to come and save me!
  • Working for Rima Wilkes. I love her! And I love what I'm studying!
  • Going through the Regent-Carey Library to find the information I need.. I'm on a major search for answers and it's quite the difficult journey...
  • Learning something new: I'm not sure what. But it'll be something new. Perhaps I'll learn how to build a decent website. or I'll learn the violin. eh.
That's pretty much it.

My marks came back. I'm glad they came out soon.. otherwise, I would still be waiting for them! Nope.. won't tell nobody what I got, but you can ask Lydia. Let's just say, I'm very pleased that my overall average went up 3%..

Leon's knee is sprained, I broke a tooth (add me onto facebook and you'll read why. it's the official explanation for people who will actually see me in person), and my father's arm aches. We're a family of injured souls.

Guess What Paper I'm Working On?

Betcha didn't know this..........

Of the first 15 Roman emperors, only Claudius led a strictly heterosexual life.
Mark Anthony, the great lover of Cleopatra, was a male homosexual prostitute in his youth.
Socrates, in drunken lust, raped a male - or was raped by a male.

My Day Yesterday vs. "The Things I Recommend You to Sense"

So, angie tagged me, but I was a bit hesitant to be that creative, because I really do have piles of papers and projects to do. Here it goes:

See
  • A man on the bus reading the Georgia Straight. He's reading the personals section, then flips over to the Savage Love section, and studies that section...
  • A crow picking what you thought was a piece of fish, until you walk a bit closer and realize that the 'piece of fish', has a long thin tail, has short dark brown hair, and two hind paws sticking out...
  • A very tall guy standing in front of you on the bus. You ask him how tall he is, and he says "6 foot 7." "Oh Thanks," You say. "I was just curious." You say. You turn your head to look at other random strangers...
Hear
  • The fart of an old man as you're walking towards the skytrain station. He is really old, he carried two canes, and looked like he was going to throw up before he released gas.
  • Your sister burp really loudly
  • A 40-something year-old women who is standing in front of you waiting for the bus, who is listening and singing along to Akon's "Smack That"
Touch
  • Abraham's case for his ~$12000 violin, only to have it fall to the ground (with the violin inside of course), because you were too clumsy.
  • ... Feel wet for the entire day. Your shoes, your socks, your hair, your face... everything is wet because you live in Vancouver and it never stops raining.
  • The skin of a potato as you cross your fingers and hope there's no dirt on it, then stick it into the microwave.
Taste
  • That disgusting taste in your mouth after you've drank a cup of coffee. It just lingers there, and others know that your breath stinks but they won't tell you. =)
  • M&M cookies that your sister bought home.
  • Bok Choy that you dad swears has touched no siew yauk.. You can taste it, then you throw it in the trash stuff it back into the refrigerator for that someone else who just loves to eat meat. Hey, you're doing them a favour.
Smell
  • The sourness of sour cream that has been expired. You're not sure whether it's really expired, but you've been eating this for the past 3 weeks and you haven't been sick yet.
  • The stinkiness of Leon's room. His two rooms. They're also our spare guest rooms.
  • The cold, hard cash that's about to roll into UBC because of the number of people that will move into the University Town because of their large, intensive building projects. Talk about sustainability. Financial sustainability.
I tag all the procrastinating University students who are reading my blog when they know they really should be studying.

The Newest Product from Apple....

This is by far the best political satire I have seen in a long time! It's definitely one of the smartest sketches from MadTV.
